"Camping out"

For the past few nights the kids have been "camping out" ... in their room. Very cute and looks like fun ... if you like sleeping on the floor.

Funniest thing heard this week

A few minutes ago, I asked Kate what she wanted for lunch.
Her reply, "BACON!"
That's my girl!

They make me laugh every day.

The Birthday Bash!

Well, a few weeks ago Batman saved the Princess! The twins turned 5 and we celebrated. A friend of ours has a sister that made this cake for the party (Thanks Kevin)! It was amazing! We had a Batman pinata, but no fireworks. In the past our town has fireworks on the Sunday after the 4th of July. Well, we planned the party, but they cancelled the fireworks. It was still a great day and we had a great time! We had some cousins from Sweden that were able to join us. They were in town for a family reunion the next weekend, that blog post will be out soon. One overdue blog post at a time.

The funniest thing heard this week ...

When we are leaving church or a store I sometimes ask the kids who wants to drive home. The usual response is that I have to drive because I am big. Usual until yesterday that is.

On our way out of Toys-R-Us (kids had birthday money burning a hole in their pockets) Kate says, "Dad, can I drive home?"

I responded, "I thought you weren't big enough to drive."

Without skipping a beat Tom says, "I'll work the pedals!"

We all laughed and they only thing I could think about is the fact that I have seen this in the movies and it typically doesn't work out well.

Enjoy your weekend!

The "Staycation" - A review

So, as our vacation time got closer and closer the realization finally sank in that we were weren't vacating, but rather staying for our vacation. I was bummed, I thought the whole reason for a vacation was to vacate; to rest and relax. Other people we know got to go to Disneyland (you know who you are) ... AGAIN (for like the bazillionth time). I really wanted to go somewhere, I didn't care where, just wanted to get away. With everything happening this year (family reunion, Chris and Kathryn's wedding, kids b-day party) it just wasn't (financially) possible. So what did we do, we stayed close to home.
We had swim lessons, went to Chuck E. Cheese for the first time with the kids, and spent the night at Mooma and Poopa's. We did some work around the house and just spent time together as a family. Reflecting back, it was a good time and I'm glad we spent it the way we did, it was very restful.
If you are in the same boat (vacation time scheduled and no place to go) try the "staycation", I would recommend it.
